Thank you for your interest in registering for the Inverted Repeats Database. IRDB is currently an experimental system which is undergoing frequent changes. As such, it is not yet open for unrestricted use, but we are currently giving access to all who inquire. Many researchers are already using it.
The database consists of two parts.
1. A public repository for information on inverted repeats in sequenced genomes. For these genomes, we include separate annotation data about other sequence fetures (genes, other repeats) when this data is available so that the occurrence of inverted repeats may be correlated with these features. The genomes currently available in IRDB are Homo sapiens. We will gladly try to accomodate requests to add new genomes.
2. A private repository and workspace for registered users. This is for analysis of user uploaded sequences with the Inverted Repeats Finder (IRF) and other programs. Results appear in a private workspace available only to the user and user selected collaborators.
Our goal is to make IRDB an informative and innovative database, especially with regard to 1) holding essential data about tandem repeats, 2) creating bioinformatics tools and methods for data visualization to speed and simplify the analysis of those repeats, 3) creating easy to use and intuitive interfaces for accessing the database and 4) simplifying collaborative research.
WE WELCOME USER SUGGESTIONS, EVEN WILDLY AMBITIOUS ONES. IF YOU HAVE SOME IDEAS THAT WILL SIMPLIFY YOUR DATA ANALYSIS OR THAT YOU BELIEVE WILL IMPROVE THE DATABASE, PLEASE SEND THEM ALONG. A MAIL LINK FOR SUGGESTIONS IS AVAILABLE ONCE YOU HAVE LOGGED ONTO IRDB.
The development of IRDB is partially funded through grant DBI-0090789 to Dr. Gary Benson from the National Science Foundation. In order to ensure continued funding for IRDB, we are collecting a limited amount of data from users to present to funding agencies. This primarily consists of 1) a short description of your research and the purposes for which you hope to use IRDB and 2) where you work. This information will only be shared in an aggregated, anonymous way, with no names or identifying information attached. Your information is kept confidential and will not be used for any purposes that violate our
